About the position

KATU/KUNP is seeking a dedicated and skilled Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) to join our team in Salem, Oregon. In this role, you will be responsible for reporting, shooting, and editing news stories that cover a wide range of statewide issues, particularly focusing on the statehouse when it is in session. As an MMJ, you will be expected to enterprising story ideas and develop contacts that will enhance the quality and depth of your reporting. Your work will not only be featured on television but will also be disseminated across various platforms, including the internet, social networking sites, and mobile devices. The position requires a proactive approach to news gathering and storytelling. You will be expected to produce daily content that is engaging and informative, ensuring that it meets the high standards of KATU and KVAL/KMTR. A significant aspect of this role is the ability to shoot and edit your own stories on a daily basis, which demands excellent technical skills and a sharp news judgment. You will be working independently, so the ability to manage your time effectively and work autonomously is crucial. In addition to your reporting duties, you will also be responsible for maintaining a valid driver's license and a good driving record, as travel within the region may be necessary. This position offers a unique opportunity to cover important stories that impact the community and to contribute to the journalistic integrity of our news organization.

Responsibilities

  • Report, shoot, and edit news stories.
  • Develop and pitch story ideas.
  • Build and maintain contacts for news gathering.
  • Produce daily content for multiple platforms including television, internet, and social media.
  • Cover statewide issues and the statehouse when in session.
  • Work independently to manage time and resources effectively.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years reporting and shooting experience is required.
  • Experience with live shots is required.
  • Excellent technical skills in shooting and editing news stories.
  • Ability to tell an NPPA style story.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Experience with Live-U is a plus.
  • Experience with AVID editing is a plus.
  • Must reside in Salem, OR.
