About the position

The position is for a dynamic storyteller at KWCH/KSCW, a leading news station in Wichita, Kansas. The role focuses on gathering and delivering factual information creatively and concisely, with a strong emphasis on local news. The ideal candidate will engage with the community and utilize various media platforms to inform viewers, while also participating in the editorial process and maintaining high journalistic standards.

Responsibilities

• Gather and provide news and information in the most accurate, appealing, and creative way
• Write and post digital-original stories prior to airing of the television version
• Demonstrate sound news judgment and ability to tell stories with pictures and natural sound
• Utilize non-linear editing equipment on a daily basis
• Develop and maintain sources
• Participate in story selection process through meetings and play an active role in editorial process
• Attend/host/speak at community service, schools and community events; meet and greet viewers
• Critique, feedback and training are part of the job
• Follow clothing and appearance guidelines
• Travel for stories as coverage area is large

Requirements

• Ability to write clearly, accurately, and in an easy-to-understand manner
• Excellent interview and conversational writing skills
• Strong live reporting skills and on-camera presentation skills
• Compelling storyteller
• Ability to shoot and edit video; create personalized stories
• Able to produce and post original content to websites
• Ability to generate daily and enterprise story ideas
• Able to use social media outlets to engage viewers
• Must be able to work well under pressure and with limited supervision
• Strong initiative and attention to detail
