About the position

News 12 is seeking an aggressive, self-starting Multimedia Journalist who is committed to delivering high-quality news and storytelling with a hyper-local lens. The ideal candidate will be responsible for generating story ideas, developing sources, pursuing leads, and producing and presenting stories and other content across all platforms, including social media. This role requires a deep dive into community issues, ensuring that the stories reported are relevant and impactful to the audience. The Multimedia Journalist will be expected to shoot, write, and edit content clearly and creatively, utilizing assigned camera and editing gear effectively. In this position, the journalist will work independently in a one-man band, backpack multimedia environment, showcasing their ability to adapt and thrive in various situations. The role demands proficiency in editing on non-linear systems such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, as well as a solid understanding of local and national current events, newsmakers, and issues. The journalist will also be responsible for writing web/digital copy for all stories, demonstrating excellent news writing ability for all platforms, including social media. The Multimedia Journalist must possess the ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Flexibility is key, as the journalist will be expected to work any assigned shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during breaking news events. The position also requires physical capabilities, including the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 40lbs, and to work in various weather conditions, both inside a climate-controlled office/studio environment and outside in extreme temperatures.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications preferred; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum one year full-time professional news reporting experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a one-man band, backpack multimedia environment.
  • Ability to edit on non-linear systems (e.g., Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere).
  • Knowledge of local and national current events, newsmakers, and issues.
  • Knowledge of libel laws and ethical foundations of journalism.
  • Excellent news writing ability for all platforms, including social media.
  • Proficiency in current and emerging newsgathering and production technologies.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 40lbs.
