About the position

KGKC Telemundo Kansas City is seeking an experienced and passionate Multimedia Journalist to join Kansas City's first Spanish-language newscast. This position is based in Kansas City, Missouri, and involves reporting, producing, shooting, writing, voicing, editing, and feeding news production content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful. The Multimedia Journalist will play a crucial role in connecting our advertising partners to the vibrant Hispanic communities we serve, as well as covering high-profile programming and news events such as the Super Bowl, Olympics, and FIFA World Cup. The ideal candidate will be responsible for pitching, shooting, writing, editing, and tracking meaningful stories focused on advocacy and accountability. This includes arranging interviews with individuals who can provide valuable information about the stories being covered. The Multimedia Journalist will also produce packaged reports and go live from the scene when necessary, assisting the news editor in preparing newscasts by identifying the best video, sound, and showcasing elements. Additionally, the role requires reviewing material for fairness, accuracy, and balance, as well as editing videos for all multimedia platforms. The position demands flexibility, as the Multimedia Journalist must be able to work after hours and on weekends when needed. Engaging with local community events and establishing and maintaining new contacts in the community are also key aspects of this role. The successful candidate will be expected to post videos, pictures, and stories to websites and social media outlets under the direction of the creative department, ensuring that the content resonates with our audience.

Responsibilities

  • Pitch, shoot, write, edit and track meaningful stories focused on advocacy and accountability.
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about the stories.
  • Produce packaged reports and go live from the scene when necessary.
  • Help news editor prepare newscasts by identifying the best video, sound and showcasing elements.
  • Provide news as directed from the news management team.
  • Review material for fairness, accuracy and balance.
  • Edit or assist in editing videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Work after hours and weekends when needed.
  • Post videos, pictures and stories to websites and social media outlets under the direction of the creative department.
  • Engage with local community events.
  • Establish and maintain new contacts in the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, television broadcasting or related field.
  • Newsroom experience.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in Spanish and English.
  • Strong storytelling skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to participate in community and public events as requested by the station.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • High ethical and journalistic standards.
  • Ability to deal with stress and pressure of time-sensitive newscast production.
  • Willingness to work long hours, varying shifts (including nights and weekends), and report to work in emergencies depending on news coverage when necessary.
  • Unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license.
