About the position

News 12 is seeking a dedicated and proactive Multimedia Journalist to join our award-winning team. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality news and storytelling with a hyper-local focus across various platforms, including social media. The ideal candidate will be an aggressive self-starter, capable of generating compelling story ideas, developing sources, pursuing leads, and producing engaging content that resonates with our audience. As a Multimedia Journalist, you will be responsible for shooting, writing, and editing news stories that matter to the community, ensuring that our coverage is both informative and impactful. In this position, you will operate assigned camera and editing equipment, diving deeply into community issues to uncover stories that reflect the concerns and interests of our viewers. You will be expected to work independently in a one-man band environment, showcasing your ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. The role requires proficiency in non-linear editing systems such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, as well as a strong understanding of current events and newsmakers at both local and national levels. You will also be responsible for writing web and digital copy for all stories, demonstrating excellent news writing skills across all platforms. The ability to think quickly and respond appropriately in high-pressure situations is essential, as is the flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, especially during breaking news events. Responsibilities

  • Shoot, write and edit news stories clearly and creatively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications preferred; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum one year full-time professional news reporting experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a one-man band, backpack, multimedia environment.
  • Proficiency in editing on non-linear systems such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere.
  • Knowledge of local and national current events, newsmakers, and issues.
  • Understanding of libel laws and ethical foundations of journalism.
  • Excellent news writing ability for all platforms, including social media.
  • Proficiency in current and emerging newsgathering and production technologies.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver up to 40lbs.
