About the position

KY3 and KSPR are seeking an experienced multi-media journalist (MMJ) who is passionate about local news and weather coverage. The role involves researching, gathering, shooting, writing, editing, and reporting news stories both on-air and online. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, covering urgent breaking news and engaging with the community. The position emphasizes creativity, hard work, and the ability to produce compelling stories under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories on-air and online.
  • Report live on the scene during breaking news events.
  • Conduct interviews in the field and aggressively research stories.
  • Develop and maintain sources of information related to assignments.
  • Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate with others to present stories effectively.
  • Utilize non-linear editing equipment daily.
  • Produce enterprise hard-news, research-driven packages under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in story selection meetings and contribute lead story ideas.
  • Attend and speak at community service events and engage with viewers.
  • Post and update stories on the web and social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Communicate with web staff during breaking news events.
  • Follow clothing and appearance guidelines for on-air presentation.
  • Perform creative stand-ups and explanatory live shots.
  • Make regular beat checks and stay informed about the viewing area.
  • Critique, provide feedback, and participate in training as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner.
  • Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
  • Strong live reporting and on-camera presentation skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge, including newsroom software and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras.
  • Experience producing and posting content to websites.
  • Intermediate knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.
  • Maintain professional conduct in the station and community.
  • Strong research skills and ability to navigate online search engines.
  • Stay current with national and local news/weather.
