About the position

The Kimi Nichols Center, Inc. is seeking dedicated individuals for multiple Direct Support Professional (DSP) positions in Salem, NH. This role is essential in providing ongoing support and supervision to individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes. The DSP will develop and implement skills training programs aimed at fostering independence, self-development, and self-esteem among participants. The focus areas include personal care skills, community integration, relationship development, and independent living skills. The position requires a compassionate approach to care, ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals supported, while adhering to the agency's mission and standards of excellence. As a DSP, you will be responsible for creating a positive and team-oriented work environment that emphasizes quality service delivery and program development. You will act as a role model, demonstrating professionalism in all aspects of your job performance. The role involves providing support and counseling to individuals, helping them develop problem-solving and decision-making skills, and implementing behavioral interventions as needed. Participation in regular team meetings and clinical discussions is crucial to ensure effective support for the individuals served. Advocacy and communication are key components of this position. You will foster the growth and independence of individuals by participating in support plan meetings and promoting their participation in community activities. It is essential to communicate any issues or concerns regarding the individuals supported to the Program Manager or appropriate personnel. Documentation is another critical aspect of the role, requiring you to maintain confidentiality and complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines. The DSP will also supervise individuals at all times, assist with personal care needs, and ensure a clean and safe environment. Transportation assistance may be required, using either the agency's vehicle or your personal vehicle. This position offers flexible scheduling options, with both part-time and full-time opportunities available, and is compensated at a rate of $19.00 to $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and perform all job functions based on the mission and philosophical principles of KNC.
  • Adhere to the Standards of Excellence for all employees.
  • Ensure the health, safety, well-being, and human rights of all people supported by following all agency policies and procedures.
  • Create a positive, team-oriented, holistic, and compassionate work environment that focuses on quality service delivery and program development.
  • Adhere to the agency timelines/schedule regarding attendance and participation at all mandatory trainings and scheduled trainings.
  • Act as a role model for people supported by demonstrating a professional manner in all aspects of job performance.
  • Promote and model Positive Behavior Supports.
  • Provide support and counseling to people supported to assist them with developing their problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Identify interfering behavior and implement behavioral interventions and protocols and/or provide counseling to people as needed.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and clinical discussions regarding people support.
  • Support and foster the growth and independence of people supported.
  • Participate in support plan meetings by providing information based on the wishes and desires of the person supported.
  • Promote increased participation in community activities and in the use of community resources.
  • Communicate all issues and concerns regarding people supported to the Program Manager and/or appropriate person.
  • Support people according to their individual communication styles and respectful of their support needs.
  • Empower people supported to make choices and exercise their human rights.
  • Engage in supervisions with the Program Manager that focus on support and improvement in job performance.
  • Ensure that all information regarding people supported is maintained with the highest level of confidentiality based on the policies and procedures regarding people's protected health information.
  • Complete required documentation that is accurate, completed within established timelines, and in a manner based on dignity and respect to people supported including data sheets, case notes, incident reports, seizure records, etc.
  • Keep daily data on behavior plans and protocols as agreed upon by the clinical team.
  • Adhere to all personnel policies, especially regarding the importance of good attendance and punctuality.
  • Follow through on all assigned tasks.
  • Work cooperatively with all team members and agency personnel.
  • Supervise people supported at all times including their arrival and departure.
  • Assist people with their personal care needs (eating, toileting, grooming, etc.).
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment and report any health or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate person based on policies and procedures.
  • Assist with transportation by driving for day supports including morning and afternoon runs using KNC or personal vehicle.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with 1 year experience with the DD population.
  • C.N.A. certification is desired.
  • Valid driver's license/Vehicle insurance and the ability to drive a KNC and/or personal vehicle.
  • Crisis intervention training (i.e. Safety Care) is favorable.
  • Willingness to complete training in areas such as Relias, CPR, Developmental disabilities, Community services, Human rights, and Passenger Assistance Training.
  • Successfully completed medication administration program (He-m1201).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in caregiving (1 year preferred).
