About the position

The Municipal Finance Analyst performs a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including participating in the production of local aid proposals and cherry sheet estimates, processing monthly and specialized local aid payments, and coordinating the exchange or dissemination of data with information technology personnel in numerous state and federal agencies. The analyst also analyzes data for use in various reports, the DLS website, and other publications. Additionally, the role involves conducting or assisting in special projects, resulting in statistical reports, manuals, and other publications. The analyst represents the Division in a professional manner in all interactions with state and local officials and other interested citizens, and uses software technology, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint in carrying out assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in production of local aid proposals and cherry sheet estimates.
  • Processes monthly and specialized local aid payments.
  • Coordinates the exchange or dissemination of data with information technology personnel in numerous state and federal agencies.
  • Analyzes data for use in various reports, the DLS website, and other publications.
  • Conducts or assists in special projects, resulting in statistical reports, manuals, and other publications.
  • Represents the Division in a professional manner in all interactions with state and local officials and other interested citizens.
  • Uses software technology, including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint in carrying out assignments.

Requirements

  • At least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • At least one year of experience in a supervisory, administrative or managerial capacity.
  • A Bachelor's degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
  • A Graduate degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and auditing.
  • Ability to understand and apply municipal and county accounting, bookkeeping and auditing procedures.
  • Ability to assemble, analyze, and present detailed financial and accounting data.
  • Ability to write concisely, express thoughts clearly and develop ideas in a logical sequence.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to recognize potential problems arising from daily work activities.
  • Ability to analyze and determine applications of accounting data, draw conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
