About the position

The Medical Office Assistant at MUSC Health Partners is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients and families, ensuring a smooth and efficient clinic experience. This role involves greeting patients, scheduling appointments, maintaining patient accounts, and managing various administrative tasks to support the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and welcomes patients and families in person or on the telephone.
  • Schedules appointments appropriately, either by phone or in person, to optimize clinic efficiency.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information accurately.
  • Collects co-pays and prior patient balances.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Handles customer service inquiries and message distribution.
  • Manages ancillary scheduling and referrals.
  • Obtains and updates demographic and insurance information for all patients.
  • Meets standard productivity metrics during the pre-registration and registration process.
  • Completes all regulatory and compliance-related forms for patient visits.
  • Completes verification and payment workflow, including screening for potential funding sources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • One year of customer service experience required.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.
  • Previous healthcare front desk experience preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with customers and establish effective relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of relevant experience preferred.
