About the position

The Medical Office Assistant at MUSC is responsible for providing excellent customer service to patients and families, optimizing clinic efficiency by scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient accounts. This role involves direct interaction with patients, handling financial transactions, and ensuring confidentiality of personal information. The position requires effective communication and organizational skills to support the clinic's operations and enhance patient experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients and families in person or on the telephone.
  • Schedule appointments appropriately, either by phone or in person.
  • Maintain patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information accurately.
  • Collect co-pays and prior patient balances.
  • Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Distribute messages and manage ancillary scheduling and referrals.
  • Obtain and update demographic and insurance information for all patients.
  • Meet standard productivity metrics while performing the pre-registration and registration process.
  • Complete all regulatory and compliance related forms for the visit.
  • Demonstrate commitment to positive patient and family experiences and excellence in customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of customer service experience required.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous healthcare front desk experience preferred.
