About the position
The Museum Educator is responsible for conveying the history, traditions, and culture of the Pequot Nation and northeastern woodland people to the public. This role involves developing and leading tours, workshops, and special programs related to museum exhibits and cultural history, while engaging visitors through critical thinking and informed discussions on current issues in Indian Country.
Responsibilities
- Understand and transmit the history, traditions, and culture of the Pequot Nation and northeastern woodland people.
- Develop and lead tours and museum workshops related to exhibits and cultural history.
- Engage the public through programs aimed at critical thinking.
- Provide detailed knowledge of current issues and events in Indian Country to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with a range of visitors including K-12 groups, college students, adult tours, and international guests.
- Train Museum Services Associates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred in history, anthropology, museum studies, ethnic studies, or similar fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge and living experience of North American Native history and culture, particularly of the Northeast.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in customer service.
- Special skills such as story-telling, arts/crafts, performing arts, and/or archaeology.
- Ability to interpret historic documents.
