The Downers Grove Park District is seeking a Museum Fall Intern to join our team and gain valuable experience in museum operations. This internship offers a comprehensive overview of various aspects of museum work, including education, collections management, and historical research. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to engage with the community through educational programs and special events, while also contributing to the preservation and management of our museum's collections. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about history and museum studies, and who are eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment. The internship will last for 16 weeks, from August to December, with an average commitment of 10-12 hours per week. Work hours are flexible but must be scheduled during standard museum business hours, which are from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on weekdays. There may also be opportunities to work during special events, on Saturdays, and during evening programs. Interns will assist in researching, developing, and leading educational programs tailored for the Downers Grove community, as well as preparing interactive elements for events and exhibits. In addition to program development, interns will observe and assist with collections processing, including updating artifacts in the museum's database and helping to complete an inventory of the museum's collection. Interns will also greet visitors at the front desk, answering general questions to better understand the needs of museum visitors. Regular attendance at staff meetings, trainings, and special events is expected, and interns must adhere to Park District policies and safety guidelines. This internship is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a museum setting while contributing to the community.
