About the position

The Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire is a full-time, 12-month academic staff position responsible for leading and expanding the Blugold Marching Band and overseeing the Blugold Athletic Band. This role involves conducting, teaching marching band techniques, and engaging in outreach and recruitment efforts. The position aims to maintain and enhance the visibility and prominence of the athletic band program while collaborating with faculty and university athletics.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Director of the 425-member Blugold Marching Band, maintaining and expanding its scope and visibility.
• Lead annual regional tours and biennial international or national trips for the marching band.
• Oversee the Blugold Athletic Band and conduct the University Band (a non-major concert band).
• Teach marching band techniques, including basic drill writing and arranging.
• Engage in outreach, teaching, administration, and leadership for the athletic band program.
• Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and departmental faculty.
• Effectively recruit for the Department and University.

Requirements

• Doctorate preferred; Master's required.
• Demonstrated experience leading athletic bands and conducting at the collegiate level.
• Advanced knowledge of marching band techniques.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to write marching band drill and musical arrangements is an asset.
