About the position

The Music Production and Audio Engineering Instructor at the Community Music Center of Boston Inc. is a part-time role focused on providing engaging and interactive group instruction in digital music production to high school students. The instructor will develop curriculum and instructional materials while also offering audio engineering support for student recording sessions. This position is ideal for candidates with group teaching experience who are passionate about music education and looking to contribute to the establishment of new programs in music production and audio engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, culturally inclusive, learner-centered group instruction in digital music production.
  • Develop instructional materials, lesson plans, and grading rubrics for classes.
  • Assign and grade projects, assignments, and tests related to music production.
  • Conduct group classes, individual lessons, and workshops on recording techniques.
  • Provide audio engineering support for student recording sessions.
  • Attend faculty orientation and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in mid-year and year-end reviews.
  • Communicate clearly with CMCB staff and partners.
  • Complete attendance in registration software accurately.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Performing Arts, Education, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience with various Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Soundtrap, GarageBand, Logic, and Ableton.
  • Basic knowledge of different audio software and platforms, both analog and digital.
  • Prior experience in a recording studio environment with professional level mixing boards.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching digital music fundamentals to high school students.
  • Strong classroom management skills and ability to create effective lesson plans.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a public school or community setting.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
