About the position

The Music Publisher position at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is focused on spreading the Church's message through music across various platforms and languages. This role is part of the Publishing Services Department and involves managing and publishing music content, collaborating with other music professionals, and contributing to significant projects like the new Hymns collection. The position requires a blend of music engraving expertise, high music literacy, and the ability to work collaboratively in a creative environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain sheet music assets for the Church in all approved languages, focusing on migrating the active library to new software.
• Understand and manage the complexities of the Church music publishing process, ensuring adherence to established procedures for multi-channel publishing.
• Work within multilevel approval structures to maintain high music quality standards.
• Research and test relevant industry practices and software to implement innovations in music publishing.

Requirements

• B.S., B.A., or B.M. degree in music, music education, music production, or a related field.
• Experience in music engraving demonstrated through a professional portfolio.
• Fluency in music notation software (e.g., Finale, Dorico, Sibelius).
• Basic understanding of MusicXML markup language and music engraving principles.
• Proficiency with the Adobe suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) is desirable but not required.
• Intermediate music performance skills, including organizing productions and leading groups.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic understanding of publishing music in foreign languages and their relation to rhythm and meter.
• Ability to effectively use Microsoft suite and awareness of database software.
• Strong writing skills in English.
