About the position

The Database Administrator (DBA) at SmartFinancial is responsible for managing and maintaining MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, ensuring their performance, integrity, and security. This role involves both strategic and operational tasks, including database design, implementation, and optimization on AWS. The DBA will collaborate with developers, automate routine tasks, and stay updated with the latest database technologies to enhance database management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Design, implement, and manage database instances on AWS, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Perform database tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure efficient performance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Monitor database performance, conduct diagnostic activities, and implement changes to optimize performance.
  • Ensure data integrity and security, implementing and managing appropriate access controls.
  • Collaborate with developers to design and optimize database schemas and queries.
  • Plan and implement database upgrades, migrations, and patches.
  • Automate routine database administration tasks using scripting and automation tools.
  • Stay updated with the latest database technologies and best practices to continually improve database management processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
  • Strong experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL database management.
  • Proficiency with AWS services, particularly RDS, EC2, S3, and IAM.
  • Solid understanding of database design, indexing, and normalization.
  • Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with database monitoring and performance tuning tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL scripting and database automation tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch.
