About the position

The Oracle/MySQL Database Administrator (DBA) position is a critical role within our Information Technology team, located in Annapolis Junction, MD. This position requires a highly motivated and team-oriented individual who can perform a variety of DBA activities essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of our database systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing tasks such as backup and restore operations, performance tuning, security management, and capacity planning. Additionally, the DBA will be involved in the development and enforcement of standards to ensure the reliability and efficiency of our database environments. A significant aspect of this role involves maintaining an Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) environment, which requires specialized knowledge and experience in managing Oracle databases in a production setting. The DBA will also be responsible for maintaining a MySQL master/master environment, ensuring that both database systems operate seamlessly and efficiently. Data modeling and design for new and existing functionalities will be a key responsibility, along with the development of documentation based on ISO processes and procedures as needed. This position demands excellent oral and written communication skills, as the DBA must effectively convey technical information to various stakeholders. The role also requires the DBA to carry a pager and be available for unscheduled after-hours work when necessary, reflecting the critical nature of database management in our operations. The ideal candidate will thrive under pressure and be willing to work extended hours as required to meet the demands of the position.

Responsibilities

• Perform DBA activities including backup, restore, performance tuning, security management, and capacity planning.
• Maintain an Oracle RAC (Real Application Cluster) environment.
• Maintain a MySQL master/master environment.
• Perform data modeling and design for new and existing functionality.
• Develop documentation based on ISO processes and procedures as needed.

Requirements

• Knowledge of designing and implementing Oracle Databases, particularly with Oracle RAC in a production environment.
• Knowledge of designing and implementing MySQL, particularly in a master/master configuration.
• Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical information effectively.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a team-oriented environment.
• Willingness to carry a pager and perform unscheduled after-hours work when necessary.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in database administration.
• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
