About the position

The NASA Virtual Reality Software and Simulation Engineer will be part of a team dedicated to developing software technology for modeling and simulating the space environment and complex space systems. This role is crucial for astronaut training, EVA planning, and future human exploration vehicle design, contributing to NASA's mission of returning astronauts to the Moon and advancing to Mars.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software technology for modeling and simulating the space environment.
  • Support astronaut training and EVA planning through simulations.
  • Lead technical projects related to VR/AR systems.
  • Communicate complex technical ideas effectively to team members and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate in a team-oriented environment to achieve project goals.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident for access to USG Facilities.
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 7 years' experience in VR/AR development using UE4/5.
  • M.S. in Computer Science, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or related disciplines with 5 years of relevant experience in VR/AR using UE4/5.
  • Significant experience with UE4/5 and C++.
  • Strong computer and software skills in both Linux and Windows environments using C/C++.
  • Experience leading VR/AR technical projects and teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with little supervision.
  • Strong work ethic and coordination skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in space vehicle systems and operations.
  • Human computer interaction system design experience.
  • Experience with VR hardware systems such as Vive or Meta Quest.
  • Familiarity with graphical tools like Blender, AC3D, Maya, Photoshop, GIMP.
  • Experience with software simulation tools like CACI/NASA Trick.
  • Knowledge of C# or Python.
