About the position

The Materials Engineer position at HII's Mission Technologies division involves managing high-level knowledge and experience with various analytical instrumentation to support the NASIC mission. The role requires professionalism, discretion, and diplomacy, focusing on analyzing, researching, designing, and developing materials for engineering applications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, research, design, and develop materials and their related fabrication and application processes.
  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop specifications for metallic, non-metallic, and composite materials.
  • Develop, analyze, and apply material properties and design allowables, processing processes, and quality engineering specifications.
  • Conduct failure analysis of components, systems, and subsystems, and perform life predictions and requirement specifications.
  • Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Operate, configure, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Fabricate, prepare, and analyze test specimens.
  • Identify necessary testing procedures based on requirements and material applications.
  • Author, review, and edit technical analysis reports.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; or a High School Diploma and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Requires Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance at the time of application.
  • U.S. Citizen required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SEM-EDS, XRF, OES, FT-IR Spectrometer, Raman Spectrometer, Hardness Tester, Pycnometer, and Tensile/Compression Tester.
  • Basic understanding of resource databases and processes.
