About the position

The NASIC Material Process Engineer 3 position at Huntington Ingalls Industries involves analyzing, researching, designing, and developing materials and their related fabrication processes to support the NASIC mission. The role requires a high level of professionalism and discretion, as well as expertise in various analytical instrumentation used for data collection and interpretation. The engineer will work closely with the Geometry and Material Properties team to optimize materials for engineering design applications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, research, design, and develop materials and their fabrication processes.
  • Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop material specifications and processing methods.
  • Conduct material analyses including failure analysis, life predictions, and specification definitions.
  • Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Operate, configure, and maintain laboratory equipment for material testing.
  • Fabricate, prepare, and analyze test specimens for various materials.
  • Identify necessary testing procedures based on material applications and requirements.
  • Author, review, and edit technical analysis reports.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; or 9 years relevant experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance at the time of application.
  • U.S. Citizen required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SEM-EDS, XRF, OES, FT-IR Spectrometer, Raman Spectrometer, Hardness Tester, Pycnometer, and Tensile/Compression Tester.
  • Basic understanding of resource databases and processes.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $84,503.00 - $125,000.00.
  • Full-time salaried position with exempt status.
