About the position

The NASIC Material Process Engineer 3 position at HII's Mission Technologies division involves managing and analyzing materials and their related fabrication processes to support the NASIC mission. The role requires a high level of professionalism and expertise in various analytical instrumentation, as well as a strong understanding of material properties and engineering design. The engineer will work closely with the Geometry and Material Properties team to optimize materials for use in engineering applications, ensuring compliance with relevant specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, researches, designs, and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes.
  • Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop specifications for metallic, non-metallic, and composite materials.
  • Develops, analyzes, and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes, and quality engineering specifications.
  • Conducts failure analysis of components, systems, and subsystems, and performs life predictions and requirement specifications.
  • Reviews and approves subcontractor material processing procedures.
  • Operates, configures, and maintains laboratory equipment for material analysis.
  • Fabricates, prepares, and analyzes test specimens based on material applications.
  • Authors, reviews, and edits technical analysis reports.

Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in a related field; 3 years relevant experience with a Master's in a related field; or a High School Diploma and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Requires Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance at the time of application.
  • Basic understanding of resource databases and processes.
  • Experience with SEM-EDS, XRF, OES, FT-IR Spectrometer, Raman Spectrometer, Hardness Tester, Pycnometer, and Tensile/Compression Tester.
