About the position

The National Intelligence Council (NIC) Editor plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) by producing authoritative intelligence assessments that inform U.S. policymakers, including the President and senior officials. This position involves leading the editorial review process of intelligence products, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and relevance, while also integrating visual elements to enhance the delivery of complex information. The NIC Editor collaborates with senior analysts and production specialists to maintain high standards in intelligence reporting and to support the overall mission of the Intelligence Community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of authoritative, all-source intelligence assessments that convey complex issues clearly.
  • Review and assess the validity of critical intelligence information in publications, ensuring accuracy and proper sourcing.
  • Task analysts to clarify factual data and analytic methodologies as needed.
  • Review NIC products for clarity, brevity, organization, logic, and grammar, working with authors to enhance context.
  • Collaborate with the NIC/APS visuals team to integrate compelling visuals that support analytic judgments.
  • Support all phases of the production process, including tracking workflow and coordinating with publication officers.
  • Assist in preparations for NIE-related IC meetings and NIC exchanges/conferences, including notetaking and report writing.
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with intelligence officers to enhance the intelligence production process.
  • Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and trends relevant to the role.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of analytic tradecraft and quality standards in intelligence production.
  • Extensive multidisciplinary teaming skills and ability to collaborate effectively with senior analysts and management.
  • Expertise in adjusting work schedules to meet high production demands and assist with crisis tasking.
  • Exceptional writing and grammar skills with the ability to improve message clarity and structure.
  • Knowledge of editorial principles and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong communication skills for eliciting and sharing information with authors and stakeholders.
  • Experience with platforms/tools such as Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, creative, fast-paced team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Eight or more years of related work experience.
  • Expert experience in an intelligence production unit, such as CIA/DA or DIA.
  • Superior knowledge of production methodology for publishing intelligence products.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Intelligence Community and NIC's role.
