About the position

The National Pre-Discharge Claims Representative assists military service members in navigating the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) outreach programs, particularly in relation to the Department of Defense's Transition Assistance Program and the Veterans Affairs Pre-Discharge Program. This role involves preparing and processing claims for benefits, providing guidance to transitioning service members, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of outreach programs to military service members.
  • Make presentations and process claims for VA benefits.
  • Act as a case manager for service members' claims.
  • Prepare statements and appeals for Pre-Discharge clients.
  • Advise service members on obtaining medical evidence from healthcare professionals.
  • Conduct research on military services policies and regulations.
  • Interact with military officials to provide assistance to service members.
  • Maintain contact with the sponsoring base Transition Manager.
  • Describe VFW service programs to service members and local communities.
  • Interact with other veterans service organizations and state agencies.
  • Process inquiries regarding veterans benefits and ensure timely submission of claims forms.
  • Mentor newly hired VFW Pre-Discharge claims representatives and department service officers.
  • Coordinate with local VFW Department DSO for veteran referrals.
  • Present the VFW program to DOD and VA employees.

Requirements

  • Military service and VFW membership required.
  • Associate degree and a minimum of one year of related experience, or three years of directly-related work experience.
  • Advanced human relations and customer service skills.
  • Proficient analytical abilities to analyze claims and apply relevant regulations.
  • Knowledge of military regulations, directives, and terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of personal computers and case management techniques.
  • VFW accreditation with the Department of Veterans Affairs and completion of required training.
