In this role, you will report to the Sr. Director of Industrial Nitrogen and will be responsible for developing and maintaining superior customer relationships across multiple levels of the organization. You will create and execute business plans that align with Nutrien's sales strategy, maximizing profitability while enhancing customer business. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining long-term supply contracts with strategic customers, collaborating with commercial teams to optimize the customer portfolio, and preparing yearly sales plans with monthly forecasting adjustments. You will also act as a liaison between customers and the finance/credit department, ensuring smooth order processing and addressing customer complaints effectively. Your role will require strategic analysis of the market to identify growth opportunities and risks, as well as optimizing volumes and reducing costs to serve. You will travel efficiently to customer and industry meetings, ensuring that you are well-informed and able to represent Nutrien effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Actively develop and maintain superior customer relationships with customers at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Develop and execute business plans that will assist in achieving sales objectives while maximizing the profitability of the sales portfolio in sync with the stated sales strategy for Nutrien.
  • Utilize knowledge to work with key customers to enhance their business and create synergy for both buyer and seller.
  • Maintain long-term supply contracts with strategic customers and renegotiate terms and conditions upon renewal, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams (i.e., product management, pricing strategy, TD&L) to optimize the customer portfolio and improve netback.
  • Prepare yearly sales plans and make monthly forecasting adjustments as well as longer-term strategic initiatives involving the sales portfolio.
  • Act as a source of local, domestic, and global market expertise for the responsible products.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in projects and special assignments.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and finance/credit department to ensure orders are given proper credit approval and are released for shipment without delay.
  • Establish and maintain strong communication with other Nutrien groups to support sales and service to assigned territory (i.e., product management, customer experience, and TD&L).
  • Investigate and handle customer complaints.
  • Work closely with customers, commercial groups, and TD&L to identify infrastructure optimization in the warehouse and distribution system.
  • Strategically analyze the market to identify growth/risks within the territory in both the long-term and short-term.
  • Utilize product management experience to work in a broad geography to optimize volumes, focusing on reducing cost to serve and maximizing net selling price.
  • Travel efficiently and intelligently to customer and industry meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in agriculture, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in sales, product management, customer experience, or a related field.
  • Highly developed customer service skills with a proven ability to grow and sustain strong customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed sales goals and objectives with analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Awareness of industry standards related to handling, storage, and use of fertilizer and specialty products.
  • Performance-driven personality with results and solution orientation and the ability to sustain a professional growth strategy while working independently.
  • Proven ability to influence key stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of margin optimization through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent written, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office components (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI).
  • Excellent understanding of internal operating systems (SAP, MSS, HANA) to extract data into valuable/reliable reports.
  • Strong understanding of North American and global markets, and a proven ability to aggregate and disseminate key market data.
  • Ability to work in and foster a positive team environment.
