About the position

The National Sales Manager at US Foods, Inc. is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the sales operations within the organization. This position requires a strategic approach to evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the sales team and relevant systems, ensuring that the sales procedures are developed and implemented as necessary. The National Sales Manager will coordinate activities with other departments, particularly Customer Service, to meet customer needs effectively. Monitoring performance metrics is crucial to assess the team's performance against key performance indicators and progress towards annual operating plan targets. Additionally, the role involves coordinating required training for the sales team and determining schedules to ensure adequate coverage of all customer relationships in line with the segmented service strategy. In this role, the National Sales Manager will also assist assigned staff in escalating inquiries to various corporate functions, including operations, replenishment, pricing, and category management. A significant aspect of the position is to grow profit and penetration of all accounts managed, which includes both direct management of accounts and oversight of those managed by direct reports. The position requires strong leadership skills, as the National Sales Manager will supervise Account Executives and Account Managers, fostering relationships with internal teams such as Customer Service Managers and external stakeholders including customers and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the ongoing effectiveness of the Sales team and relevant systems.
  • Develop and implement sales procedures as necessary.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments and functions to meet customer needs, including with Customer Service.
  • Monitor performance metrics to assess performance against key performance indicators and progress against annual operating plan targets.
  • Coordinate required training for the sales team.
  • Determine schedules to ensure adequate coverage of all customer relationships in line with the segmented service strategy.
  • Assist assigned staff in escalating inquiries to Division, Region, and Corporate functions as needed.
  • Grow profit and penetration of all accounts managed, both directly and through direct reports.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Business/Marketing preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of sales and distribution experience required, preferably in the foodservice industry.
  • Experience in restaurant operations is desirable.
  • Experience using quantitative & qualitative research data will be helpful.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as customer service and presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in restaurant operations is desirable.
