The National Sales Manager at Paul Mueller Company is a pivotal role responsible for directing and overseeing the sales policies, objectives, and initiatives for a specific business unit. This position requires a strategic mindset to set both short and long-term sales strategies, evaluate the effectiveness of current sales programs, and recommend enhancements to products or services that will improve customer satisfaction and sales potential. The National Sales Manager must possess a comprehensive understanding of the business unit's concepts, practices, and policies, leveraging extensive experience and judgment to achieve sales and profitability goals. In this role, the National Sales Manager will lead and direct the work of Regional Sales Managers, understanding customer motivations and effectively tapping into their needs and desires. The position involves coaching, teaching, and supervising assigned personnel, ensuring effective employee relations, and proactively engaging in employee coaching and development. The National Sales Manager will also resolve employee issues by identifying problems and implementing resolutions. The essential functions of the job include providing on-site leadership for project teams, managing performance (hiring, development, discipline, termination) of direct reports in collaboration with Human Resources, and building and maintaining business relationships at all organizational levels. The role requires responsiveness to sales staff inquiries and issues, collaboration with the business unit team to support processes and procedures, and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing standards and complying with legal regulations. Additionally, the National Sales Manager will oversee national sales, promotions, collections, and other activities to achieve sales targets, build positive relationships with existing clients, identify potential customers for new business opportunities, and represent the company at sales conferences and industry meetings. The position also involves preparing annual budgets, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions, as well as developing creative sales techniques to meet business goals. Regular travel, up to 60% domestically, is expected, with minimal international travel.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the sales team to plan promotional activities, trade shows, and special events.
  • Enhance the company's brand and reputation in the market through strategic business development.
  • Assist with preparing annual budgets, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Provide information for management by preparing sales forecasts and special reports.
  • Develop creative sales techniques and tactics to meet business goals.
  • Understand client needs and provide appropriate sales solutions in a timely manner.
  • Regularly review and recruit new customers through collaboration with Regional Sales Managers.
  • Prepare sales contracts, proposals, and reports for management and customers.
  • Develop sales presentations as required.
  • Maintain sales management and reporting tools to achieve business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required in area of specialty.
  • A minimum of five years related experience is required for this position.
  • Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical skills with a problem-solving attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Leadership skills to lead, develop, and coach others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
