About the position

The National Tax Practice Managing Director of Tax Policy at Cherry Bekaert is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding the firm's tax policy initiatives and ensuring high-quality technical services. This position involves collaboration with tax leadership to execute the firm's strategic plan, providing expert guidance on emerging tax issues, and representing the firm at major conferences. The role also emphasizes talent development and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the National Tax Practice Office (NTPO).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with tax leadership and firm leadership to execute the Firm's strategic plan.
  • Support the NTPO practice in providing technical guidance and quality management.
  • Research and analyze new tax guidance on emerging issues and trends.
  • Implement successful tax strategies in response to legislative developments.
  • Ensure high-quality NTPO tax technical services to clients.
  • Advise on interactions with the Treasury Department, IRS, and OECD.
  • Author and deliver thought leadership to support tax practice growth.
  • Advise clients on tax reform and policy matters.
  • Represent Cherry Bekaert at major conferences and organizations.
  • Help recruit, develop, and retain NTPO staff.
  • Act as a Career Advisor to NTPO and contribute to talent development.
  • Innovate through new technologies and digitization solutions.
  • Standardize service delivery processes to reduce risk and maximize efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • CPA, JD, LLM, and/or MST/MBT required.
  • Prior experience in national tax practice office quality control/policy development required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and enhance the knowledge of a technical team.
  • Prior leadership experience with the Hill, Treasury, or IRS is desirable.
  • Proficiency in tax applications and research tools required (CCH Access, RIA Checkpoint, BNA, etc.).
  • Broad knowledge in tax compliance, consulting, and client service with expertise in key areas of taxation.
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with firm and client personnel.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience authoring key legislative tax matters is a plus.
  • Experience in a leadership role within tax policy development.
