About the position

The Natural Gas Utility Service Laborer position at UGI Utilities, Inc. is an entry-level role based in Lancaster, PA, focused on performing general natural gas utility tasks. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas services to our customers. Employees in this role will undergo training and gain experience to qualify for various pipe fitting and utility tasks, which include gas meter turn-ons, building and installing single and multiple gas meter sets, meter changes, service shut-offs, and responding to gas odor complaints, carbon monoxide complaints, fire calls, and facility damages. As part of their responsibilities, Utility A employees will also perform after-hours on-call duties once they are qualified. The role involves a four-tiered progression system, where employees must complete specific training and gain the necessary experience to advance to the Mechanic II level. This structured progression allows for career growth within the company, providing opportunities for employees to enhance their skills and take on more complex tasks as they advance. Responsibilities

  • Perform general natural gas utility tasks including gas meter turn-ons and shut-offs.
  • Build and install single and multiple gas meter sets.
  • Conduct meter change outs and replacements.
  • Locate facilities as required.
  • Respond to emergency situations including gas odor complaints, CO complaints, and fire calls.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • 2 - 3 years' experience in pipe fitting, plumbing, HVAC installation, or a related field.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and general health physical.
  • Possess a valid PA Driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Must live within the service territory of the job location.
  • Mechanical ability and capability to perform physical labor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in plumbing, HVAC, or a related field is a plus.
