About the position

The Natural Resource Enforcement Recruit position is designed for individuals seeking to develop their skills in law enforcement related to natural and cultural resources. This role involves participating in training at a police officer academy, engaging in practical fieldwork, and assisting in various law enforcement activities, including livestock inspections and community outreach. The recruit will gain hands-on experience while learning about the laws and regulations governing natural resources, as well as the cultural aspects of the Navajo community.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in classroom instruction and practical exercises at a basic police officer academy.
  • Engages in professional development training related to law enforcement methods and procedures for natural and cultural resources.
  • Assists a commissioned Natural Resource Enforcement Officer in livestock inspections and regulatory permit reviews.
  • Prepares reports and issues regulatory permits as needed.
  • Maintains a daily log of activities and reports.
  • Assists with traffic control and evacuations during wildland fires and emergencies.
  • Educates visitors on natural resource policies and performs community outreach presentations.
  • Completes DLI (Deputy Livestock Inspector) Training and learns to operate various equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Favorable background investigation required.
  • Ability to speak and understand the Navajo language is preferred.
