About the position

The Nural Resource Specialist (Ste Grazing Specialist) position at the USDA focuses on providing technical support and guidance in pasture, forage, and livestock management. The role involves collaborating with various offices to develop conservation plans and manage plant communities, particularly in grasslands. The incumbent will also assist in training and data gathering related to pastureland management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide statewide leadership, technical guidance, and training on grazing, forage, and livestock management practices.
  • Maintain working relationships with other agencies and organizations related to livestock and grassland management.
  • Assist with the Pastureland National Resources Inventory program.
  • Provide technical training to field and area level specialists.
  • Assist with the development of Ecological Site Descriptions on pastures and grasslands.
  • Gather, develop, and transfer information on pasture management technologies.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service for GS-11 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service for GS-12 applicants.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ecological site descriptions.
  • Knowledge of conservation practices related to grazing and livestock management.
