About The Position

The Nural Resources Manager/Supervisory Soil Conservationist (ASTC - Programs) position at the Department of Agriculture in Michigan is responsible for coordinating, directing, and evaluating statewide program activities related to soil conservation. The incumbent will serve as the program manager for various assigned programs and will work closely with federal, state, tribal, and local agencies to ensure effective implementation of conservation practices authorized under the Farm Bill.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level.
  • Degree in soil conservation or related agricultural or natural resource discipline, including specific coursework in soils and crops or plant science.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state motor vehicle operator's license.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Service at conferences or meetings related to areas of responsibility.
  • Establish and maintain contacts and cooperative relations with Federal and state agencies, Tribes, municipal and private organizations.
  • Serve as the State Program Manager for conservation programs authorized in the Farm Bill and provide programmatic support to Service personnel and other agencies.
  • Manage financial and available staff resources by preparing long and short-range schedules for staff activities, budgets, and funding requests.
  • Conduct and direct studies and analyses of work programs to provide recommendations for maximizing resource utilization.
  • Provide statewide leadership and guidance for the planning, development, and operation of programs and activities within areas of responsibility.
  • Determine the need for personnel services and technical assistance and coordinate program needs with state staff and others.
