About the position

The Natural Resources Specialist in the Water & Wastewater Operations Division is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations related to water and wastewater management. This role involves collecting samples, monitoring facilities, conducting inspections, and engaging in public outreach to educate the community on environmental issues. The specialist will also review environmental permits and assist in investigations related to compliance and environmental protection efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Collect water and wastewater samples according to FDEP standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor Hauled Waste and FOG Receiving Facility compliance.
  • Staff the Septage Receiving Facility as needed.
  • Review waste tracking forms and conduct follow-up inspections at waste generator locations.
  • Review compliance data and submit reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Gather, document, evaluate, and interpret scientific and technical data.
  • Enter data into databases for regulatory compliance evaluation.
  • Assist in investigations involving compliance and environmental issues.
  • Make presentations to schools and civic associations for public outreach.
  • Review environmental permits and enforcement documents for regulatory consistency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, geology, biology, environmental science, or a closely related field.
  • Six months of experience in natural resource protection or closely related experience.
  • Valid Florida Class E driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences or closely related field.
  • Florida Industrial Pretreatment Association Certification - Level B or C.
  • Reclaimed Water Inspection Certification.
  • Field Sampling Certification.
  • Storage Tank Inspection Certification.
  • Experience using Lablynx or other Computerized Information Management System.
  • Experience in Hauled Waste Permitting.
  • Experience in facility inspection and reporting.
  • Experience using FDEP Standard Operating and Quality Assurance Procedures.
  • Experience in groundwater sampling.
