About the position

The Natural Sciences Faculty (Chemistry) at Northwest State Community College is responsible for delivering classroom and laboratory instruction in Chemistry. This role involves developing and evaluating curriculum, providing academic advising, and participating in departmental and college-wide activities. The faculty member will also engage in professional development and collaborate with external agencies to enhance educational offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate classroom and clinical instruction by preparing, presenting, and evaluating course materials.
  • Provide feedback and explanations of graded coursework in a timely manner.
  • Ensure a positive learning environment while maintaining safety protocols in classrooms and labs.
  • Manage classroom and lab equipment, maintenance, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with the lab coordinator for effective ordering and removal of chemical stores.
  • Lead the development, assessment, and evaluation of curriculum for existing and new courses.
  • Attend statewide articulation and transfer meetings to stay informed on policies and make curricular recommendations.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts by maintaining office hours for advising.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling to students regarding course selection and academic requirements.
  • Facilitate partnerships with colleges, universities, high schools, and professional associations.
  • Attend departmental, faculty meetings, and college committees as required.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner following college policies.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance instructional skills.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a master's degree with at least 18 semester credit hours in Chemistry.
  • Preferred teaching experience in a relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of educational theory and techniques.
  • Familiarity with statewide transfer and articulation policies.
  • Ability to lead the development of new courses and assess course effectiveness.
