About the position

The Naturalist position at Web of Life Field School is designed for individuals passionate about the outdoors and education, particularly in inspiring children to become stewards of the planet. This role involves teaching outdoor science lessons and leading activities at various camp locations in California, contributing to the development of the next generation's understanding of nature and ecology.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach curriculum based on WOLF School's seven concepts: Adaptations, Cycles, Diversity, Community, Energy, Change and Interdependence.
  • Deliver outdoor science lessons and activities to 15-25 students each week on interpretive hikes.
  • Lead community building group activities including games and campfire programs.
  • Understand and implement program safety regulations of WOLF School's risk management plan during all camp activities.
  • Act as a positive role model for participants and express enthusiasm in all aspects of camp.
  • Assume responsibility for the well-being of each camper and provide necessary emergency response and/or first aid to all campers while on duty.

Requirements

  • Education or work experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, organization, flexibility, and sound judgment as it relates to the delivery of youth program activities in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with nature and natural processes in California ecosystems.
  • Previous experience working with youth in an informal education setting; could include camp, classroom, or other environments.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and multiple learning styles.
  • Experience in youth focused-programs and delivery of science content; knowledge of inquiry-based teaching strategies.
  • Must currently hold or obtain a valid CPR/First Aid certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in informal education (1 year preferred).
