About the position

The Naval Architect position at Norfolk Naval Shipyard involves serving as a technical working leader on complex engineering projects within the Naval Architectural Branch. Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical working leader on complex engineering projects.
  • Coordinate efforts of assigned personnel to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Perform engineering evaluations of material properties and environmental considerations.
  • Investigate ship stability or submarine diving problems and recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience identifying technical functions of naval architecture engineering and related fields.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical manuals.
  • Experience preparing engineering drawings and technical documents for complex ship systems.
  • Experience performing engineering analysis and calculations for project designs.
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving problems during installations or testing phases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours in relevant engineering courses.
