About the position

The position is for a communications engineer at MITRE, focusing on delivering impactful outcomes across the Navy's R&D, intelligence, acquisition, and operational communities. The role involves modernizing communication systems and addressing critical mission needs to support naval maneuver and integration across the Fleet. The successful candidate will lead communications engineering initiatives and work on various projects that enhance Naval capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead communications engineering initiatives across the Naval sponsor base.
  • Apply analytical techniques to address the Navy's communications challenges.
  • Shape communications architectures by leveraging industry trends and innovations.
  • Modernize Naval capabilities through the development of technical specifications and integration strategies.
  • Communicate technical analyses and recommendations clearly to sponsors and partners.
  • Contribute to or lead multi-disciplined teams developing innovative technical solutions.
  • Implement communications engineering principles to develop data-driven insights and actionable recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field; or 3 years and an MS or PhD with relevant experience.
  • Experience in SATCOM architecture and waveforms, Naval applications, and data architecture.
  • Familiarity with communications under denied, degraded, intermittent, and low-bandwidth conditions.
  • Knowledge of antenna and phased array design.
  • Ability to work independently and learn new technologies and processes.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering lifecycle activities including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Active DOD Top Secret/SCI level security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience; or 6 years and an MS or PhD with 3 years' experience.
  • Previous experience with Naval Communication Systems.
  • Research and development experience in surface command, control, and communications, weapon systems, or sensing systems.
  • Experience with C++, Python, MATLAB, or other modeling tools.
  • Expert knowledge of Naval tactical communications architecture and waveforms.
