About the position

The position is for a systems engineer at MITRE, focusing on delivering impactful outcomes across the Navy's R&D, intelligence, acquisition, and operational communities. The role involves providing systems engineering expertise in various areas, including C5ISR&T, long-range fires, and undersea warfare, to support naval maneuver and integration across the Fleet. The successful candidate will analyze complex systems, apply model-based systems engineering principles, and evaluate alternative architectures to enhance naval capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze complex systems-of-systems to provide actionable recommendations to US Naval sponsors.
  • Apply Model Based Systems Engineering principles to assess requirements and designs.
  • Utilize Mission Engineering principles to align operational needs with emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate and compare alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques.
  • Define capability and interoperability gaps, overlaps, opportunities, and constraints.
  • Use systems models to assess the impact of proposed changes on component systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or 3 years and a MS or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of one or more primary job responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and impactfully (both oral and written).
  • Demonstrated experience with System Engineering and Model Based System Engineering (MBSE).
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages for quantitative analyses (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Active DOD Secret Security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of related experience in Systems Engineering or a related field; or 6 years and an MS or a PhD with 3 years' experience.
  • Experience with Navy S&T, RDT&E and acquisition programs.
  • Experience with rapid acquisition pathways or acquisition program R&D.
  • Experience using DOORs, iGrafix, Simulink, CAMEO/MSOSA or other MBSE tools.
  • Proficiency in Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and systems modeling methods.
