About the position

The Certified Peer Support Specialist role at M Physicians is designed to provide non-clinical support to individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis. This position is part of the NAVIGATE program, which focuses on recovery and resilience through a team-based approach. The specialist will work with individuals aged 15 to 40, helping them understand their illness, develop personal strengths, and connect with community resources to achieve their treatment goals.

Responsibilities

  • Use a non-clinical approach to help recipients discover their strengths and develop their own unique recovery.
  • Model wellness, personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hope through appropriate sharing of personal experiences.
  • Provide education and skill-building in areas such as wellness planning, crisis planning, and self-advocacy skills.
  • Assist recipients in identifying their strengths and overcoming barriers to participation in community resources.
  • Connect recipients with community resources and teach them how to utilize these resources effectively.
  • Encourage community-based activities, including work, relationships, and hobbies.
  • Lead peer support groups and illness management and recovery groups.
  • Complete training and orientation tasks specific to providing peer support in a coordinated specialty care team.
  • Provide individualized ongoing peer support to patients.
  • Develop, recruit for, and co-facilitate group interventions for NAVIGATE enrollees.
  • Educate the community about the value of including lived experience in mental health care and research.
  • Manage administrative tasks such as monitoring emails and documenting patient encounters.

Requirements

  • Must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist Level 1 by the MN DHS within 6 months of hire.
  • Comfortable working directly in the community with clients, including home and community visits.
  • Availability beyond traditional office hours may be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mental health support or peer support roles.
  • Familiarity with community resources and services for mental health.
  • Skills in group facilitation and community engagement.
