About the position

The NAVIGATE Certified Peer Support Specialist role at CentraCare is a part-time position focused on providing non-clinical support to individuals experiencing their first episode of psychosis. This position is integral to the NAVIGATE program, which employs an interdisciplinary team approach to help young adults aged 15 to 40 develop skills for recovery and resilience. The specialist will engage in community outreach, lead peer support groups, and assist clients in utilizing community resources effectively.

Responsibilities

• Use a non-clinical approach to help recipients discover their strengths and develop their own unique recovery.
• Model wellness, personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hope through appropriate sharing of personal experiences.
• Provide education and skill-building in areas such as wellness planning, crisis planning, and self-advocacy skills.
• Assist recipients in identifying their strengths and overcoming barriers to participation in community resources.
• Connect clients with community resources and teach them how to utilize these resources effectively.
• Encourage community-based activities, including work, relationships, and hobbies.
• Lead peer support groups and illness management and recovery groups.
• Complete training and orientation tasks specific to providing peer support.
• Provide individualized ongoing peer support to patients.
• Develop, recruit for, and co-facilitate group interventions for NAVIGATE enrollees.
• Educate the community about the value of lived experience in mental health care and research.
• Manage administrative tasks such as responding to emails and documenting patient encounters.

Requirements

• Must be certified as a Peer Support Specialist Level 1 by the MN DHS within 6 months of hire.
• Comfortable working directly in the community with clients, including home and community visits.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in mental health support or peer support roles.
• Familiarity with community resources and services for mental health.
