About the position

The NCAA Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance at the University of Idaho plays a crucial role in ensuring adherence to NCAA rules and regulations within the athletics department. This position assists the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance in managing the comprehensive NCAA rules education and compliance program, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of the university's athletic programs. The individual in this role will serve as a liaison between the university and the NCAA, as well as affiliated conferences, the office of general counsel, and various external groups. This involves interpreting rules and addressing compliance issues that may arise within the department. Key responsibilities include the development and dissemination of educational programs aimed at increasing awareness of NCAA rules among coaches, staff, and student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Director will also be responsible for creating and implementing institutional and departmental rules, policies, and processes that align with NCAA compliance standards. Monitoring and conducting assessments of athletic department activities, as well as other relevant university activities, is critical to ensure compliance. The position requires thorough documentation of all activities and findings, with the responsibility of reporting any instances of non-compliance to the appropriate university administrators and governing bodies, including the NCAA and conference compliance offices. This role requires effective interaction with a variety of stakeholders, including general counsel, athletic department staff, student-athletes, university faculty, and administration. The Assistant Athletic Director must possess strong organizational skills and excellent communication abilities to foster good relationships and ensure that all parties are informed and compliant with NCAA regulations. The position reports directly to the Office of General Counsel, emphasizing the importance of legal oversight in compliance matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance in managing the NCAA rules education and compliance program.
  • Act as a liaison with the NCAA and affiliated conferences regarding rules interpretations and compliance issues.
  • Develop and disseminate rules awareness and education programs for coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
  • Create applicable institution and department rules, policies, and processes addressing compliance.
  • Conduct and monitor athletic department activities to assess compliance with NCAA rules.
  • Document activities and findings related to compliance and report non-compliance instances to appropriate administrators and governing bodies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience making procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Proficiency in using computer software programs such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws regarding student records.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or Juris Doctorate degree.
  • One or more years of NCAA Division 1 compliance experience.
