About the position

The Azure Data Engineer role is a long-term contract position based in Houston, TX, requiring a hybrid work model. The primary focus of this position is to lead and manage Azure projects while collaborating with diverse teams and clients. The engineer will be responsible for designing and architecting data solutions, ensuring effective communication with client IT teams, and providing technical leadership in both tactical and strategic aspects of data engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Azure projects in a customer-facing role.
  • Work with large and geographically diverse teams.
  • Conduct client discussions regarding architecture, integration, and reporting layers.
  • Facilitate workshops and brainstorming sessions with clients.
  • Provide technical leadership for day-to-day activities and strategic vision.
  • Represent team priorities and architectures in cross-team discussions.
  • Communicate effectively with client IT teams and mentor team members.
  • Collaborate with client architects to form vision and priorities.
  • Design and architect end-to-end data flows for complex project components.
  • Implement models, policies, and standards for data storage and integration.
  • Utilize agile methodologies for delivering BI solutions, including SAFe.
  • Configure and execute Azure DevOps deployment pipelines and GIT branching.
  • Manage all phases of data engineering and data management.
  • Configure Azure Data Factory for data orchestration.
  • Leverage Databricks notebooks for data transformations.
  • Ensure security configuration for Azure Data Lake storage.
  • Develop optimized stored procedures and indexes in Azure Data Warehouse Synapse.
  • Understand Logic Apps and their applicability in service management.
  • Apply Kimball methodology for data warehouse lifecycle.
  • Code in SQL and scripting languages such as Python and R.
  • Utilize software development best practices and tools like Ansible and Jenkins.
  • Develop quick POCs using AI techniques.
  • Analyze organizational problems and create effective solutions.
  • Adapt to change and work productively in uncertain environments.

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience in a customer-facing role leading Azure projects.
  • Ability to lead and work with large, geographically diverse teams.
  • Experience in client discussions around architecture and integration.
  • Proven ability to conduct workshops and brainstorming sessions with clients.
  • Technical leadership in tactical and strategic aspects of projects.
  • Effective communication skills with client IT teams.
  • Experience in designing and architecting data solutions and data flows.
  • Knowledge of data governance models, policies, and standards.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies, particularly SAFe.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory and data orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Databricks for data transformations.
  • Expertise in Azure Data Lake storage and security configurations.
  • Experience with Azure Data Warehouse Synapse and related technologies.
  • Understanding of Logic Apps and their applications.
  • Knowledge of Kimball methodology for data warehousing.
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages like Python and R.
