About the position

The Conservation Designer at Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects will play a crucial role in bridging ecology and landscape architecture. This position focuses on creating sustainable landscapes that respect ecological and cultural contexts, addressing critical issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss. The designer will collaborate with various teams to manage projects, conduct ecological assessments, and produce technical documents, all while ensuring design excellence and effective communication with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge the disciplines of ecology and landscape architecture through concepts, research, and graphic form.
  • Design, investigate funding for, and coordinate studies on the diversity, composition, status, and management of terrestrial, wetland, and aquatic ecosystems.
  • Identify key information gaps for ecological data and develop strategies and financial resources to address them.
  • Conduct surveys and impact assessments of proposed projects on local wildlife species and their habitats.
  • Use academic and professional networks to convene scientists for biological surveys and build strategic partnerships.
  • Research and prepare technical documents.

Requirements

  • Experience or academic background in conservation or ecology.
  • Background in design thinking (art, design, planning, landscape architecture).
  • Experience managing projects and internal teams.
  • Strong technical experience in project management, budget control, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current valid driver's license.
