About the position

A Nephrologist is a physician who studies and deals with nephrology, which is the adult and pediatric study of the kidneys and its diseases. The nephrologist is responsible for providing medical services to Health Center patients in the field of Nephrology specialization, which the physician completed training in. The nephrologist deals with the diagnosis and management of kidney disease, which is vital for maintaining normal fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. The nephrologist is in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, allowing for consultation, collaboration, or referral. This role includes the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term kidney health care issues.

Responsibilities

  • Examine, diagnose, and treat adult patients with kidney problems.
  • Order and follow up on lab and other diagnostic tests.
  • Determine the final disposition of the patient.
  • Coordinate care with other members of the health care team and refer patients for further diagnostic work-up or treatment when necessary.
  • Manage hospital admissions when warranted and coordinate inpatient care.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • One (1) to two (2) years experience in the field.
  • Graduate of an approved residency program.
  • Able to communicate effectively with staff and patients.
  • Graduate of an approved medical school.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • NYS license to practice medicine and surgery. Board Certification or Board eligibility.
