NetOps Engineer

About the position

The NetOps Engineer is responsible for managing and supporting network security infrastructure, including project implementations, operational support, and escalation management. This role requires hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team while maintaining communication with management regarding project statuses. The position is primarily on-site for the first 90 days, transitioning to a hybrid work model thereafter, and includes an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

• Support projects, implementations, and handoffs to other teams
• Create documentation and diagrams for projects, implementations, and network security devices
• Support network security infrastructure including firewalls, NAC, IPS, and other network-based security systems
• Maintain and update network security systems with software and firmware updates
• Review, audit, and remediate network security devices for compliance with standards
• Support requests from other teams and business units
• Analyze and diagnose reports of network security problems, documenting root causes and providing remediation recommendations
• Work with vendors for problem escalation and resolution
• Ensure timely completion of daily tasks and projects
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support
• Provide secondary application support for network security admin functions
• Assist with vulnerability remediation
• Review and maintain daily jobs including scheduled tasks
• Perform security hardening of network security systems
• Proactively provide recommendations for improving internal systems
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems relating to TCP/IP, certificates, SNMP, and security
• Document and diagram current and future system expansions
• Analyze network and security devices for possible issues
• Work with third-party vendors to expedite resolution
• Provide support on various hardware as needed
• Develop a working knowledge of the business side and interface effectively with user areas
• Perform systems analysis of software/hardware modifications and user requests
• Research, plan, and implement network and security solutions
• Document internal support processes and procedures and build runbooks
• Design and implement processes to ensure high availability of all systems
• Work closely with all teams on projects of all scopes
• Engage outside contractors with proper technical expertise when appropriate
• Ensure timely completion of projects and deployments

Requirements

• 5+ years hands-on experience with Cisco network infrastructure focusing on security
• Experience with IP routing and routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
• Understanding of WAN technologies including MPLS, IPsec, and remote access VPNs
• Understanding of VXLAN fabrics and multi-VRF environments
• Strong understanding of network security technologies such as netflow, firewalls, and identity management
• Active CCNA or CCNP certification with a focus on Routing & Switching or Security is desired
• Knowledge of network security and monitoring tools
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
• Ability to work on after-hours changes, including evenings and weekends
• Ability to travel to office and branch locations as needed
• Ability to lift 50lbs and rack/stack networking equipment
• Strong project management skills
• High level of comfort with debugging complex issues
