About the position

The Network Architect Intermediate position at the University of Michigan's Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) division involves designing, implementing, and maintaining wired and wireless networks in a 24/7 enterprise environment. The role requires a strong background in Cisco technologies, including switches and routers, as well as experience in cloud networking and automation. The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams to ensure the security, stability, and reliability of Michigan Medicine's network infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead network upgrade and replacement lifecycle and design for facilities projects.
  • Perform physical installation of network equipment, configuration of switches and routers, and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
  • Respond to and resolve network environment issues, participating in Major Incident processes.
  • Monitor and manage network infrastructure, performing performance analysis and reporting.
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support in a rotating schedule and perform firmware/software upgrades during non-business hours.
  • Collaborate to resolve complex technical issues across the enterprise and document solutions and procedures.
  • Evaluate new technologies and help develop architectures and best practices for wired and wireless networks.
  • Develop and maintain cloud network solutions following best practices.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity problems and modernize processes using automation and scripting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing and managing complex Cisco network infrastructure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Cisco CCT, CCNA or CCNP certifications.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Network Engineer.
  • Experience with Cisco 4400, 8000, and 9500 series routers.
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst 9300 and 9400 switches.
  • Experience in a healthcare or 24/7 enterprise network environment.
  • Experience with VLAN, VRF, subnetting, and Cisco IOS code deployment.
  • Experience with Cisco DNAC, Meraki, or SD-WAN.
  • Experience with DHCP and DNS operations in a large environment.
  • Experience with UPS equipment for network and telecommunications.
  • Experience with programming or scripting for automation.
  • Experience designing scalable cloud network solutions on AWS, Azure, or Google.
