About the position

The Communications Network Engineer Senior - Transport Operations Boundary position at Leidos involves providing professional services and leadership for the Navy's largest IT services program, focusing on the design, integration, and management of network services. The role requires extensive knowledge of network communications, security controls, and compliance, with responsibilities including network design, load balancing, firewall configuration, and performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Network Boundary professional services and thought leadership for the largest Intranet in the world.
  • Design, implement, and manage load balancing solutions to optimize network performance and ensure high availability for government applications.
  • Configuration and maintenance of firewall systems to protect sensitive government data and ensure security compliance and resource availability.
  • Monitor network traffic and analyze performance metrics to identify and address current and potential issues.
  • Develop and enforce security policies and procedures related to network boundary traffic management.
  • Collaborate with other enterprise network teams and departments to streamline firewall and load balancing solutions within the existing network infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues related to network boundary appliances.
  • Provide network boundary expertise and technical guidance for junior network engineers and supporting staff.
  • Execute Continuous Service Improvements (CSI) including network appliance updates, performance tuning, and enhancements.
  • Create and maintain Engineering Implementation Plans (EIP).
  • Analyze network bandwidth needs and recommend actions to meet requirements.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades and maintenance activities with key enterprise stakeholders.
  • Provide Tier III escalation support and vendor engagement supporting Incident Management activities.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis for Problem Management activities.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a current DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • Experience engineering and troubleshooting networks, including extensive routing and switching experience such as MPLS, VPNs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and switching protocols (Spanning Tree Protocol, VLANs, LLDP, VoIP, Multicast protocols).
  • Minimum of DoD 8570.01 IAT Level III Certification required (e.g., CCNP Security, CISSP, or CASP+).
  • An Associate level Network Vendor Certification is required (from Cisco, Juniper, F5 Networks, or Aruba Networks).
  • Willingness to be called during off-hours on a rotational basis to meet customer mission requirements.
  • Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of IP network/subnet addressing.
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining technical documents, analyses, and reports.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, including OCONUS potential travel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience providing support to the NGEN-NMCI program is highly desired.
  • Experience with Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager (CPPM) identity management solution.
  • Demonstrated NET/SEC DevOps experience.
  • ITIL v3/v4 certification/training.
  • Agile certifications or applicable experience.
