About the position

The Network Architect position is responsible for supporting the SOM Enterprise network upgrade, optimization, and quality assurance for the implementation and management of the Cisco network infrastructure. This role involves mentoring junior staff, assisting with daily support, troubleshooting, and maintenance, while also facilitating the rollout of new technologies for the enterprise network. The candidate must possess a high degree of technical skill and creativity, staying current with emerging technologies and practices to meet the needs of the State.

Responsibilities

  • Support the SOM Enterprise network upgrade and optimization.
  • Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to junior staff.
  • Assist with daily support, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the network.
  • Facilitate, validate, and roll out new technologies for the enterprise network.
  • Develop solutions to existing and upcoming technical problems.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain DNA Center/Catalyst Center.
  • Upgrade and maintain Catalyst Switches using DNA Center/Catalyst Center.
  • Perform configuration updates to Catalyst Switches using DNA Center/Catalyst Center.
  • Troubleshoot with ISE and maintain endpoints.
  • Support infrastructure solutions for technical needs or problems.
  • Implement and support data center network solutions, including design and migrations.
  • Configure, install, and support Cisco routers and data switches.
  • Develop remediation plans for security issues identified by assessments.
  • Monitor, upgrade, troubleshoot, and maintain network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with State of Michigan DTMB CTO Network Services managers and Data Center Infrastructure Services staff.
  • Identify and prioritize critical business functions with stakeholders.
  • Consult with vendor product specialists and independent research organizations on best-fit technologies.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to various audiences.
  • Plan and develop support processes adhering to best practices (ITIL).
  • Provide performance analysis and troubleshooting support.
  • Support technical and non-technical entities in defining requirements and delivering solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to best practice security framework controls and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships across organizational teams.
  • Resolve conflicts, connectivity, and security issues.
  • Prepare information for presentations.
  • Mentor staff on best practices for the infrastructure environment.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience in Cisco Nexus & Catalyst.
  • Five or more years of experience with Cisco ISE and troubleshooting.
  • Five or more years of experience in Cisco Catalyst Center/DNA Center and enterprise networking fundamentals.
  • Certified Cisco Network Professional (CCNP) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Enterprise Network Automation, DNA Center/Catalyst Center.
  • Experience in remediating security issues identified by vulnerability assessments or penetration tests.
  • Good communication skills.
