About the position

As a Network Data Operations Engineer at Commnet Broadband, you will be integral to the design, implementation, and management of telecommunications networks that cater to the communication needs of the organization. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure that the network infrastructure is not only available but also performs optimally and remains secure. This position is pivotal in supporting our mission to provide high-quality broadband communication services, particularly to Tribal and Rural America, thereby fostering digital inclusion and equality of opportunity. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining various data networks, including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and other essential network infrastructures. You will monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure minimal downtime, which is critical for maintaining the quality of service we provide to our customers. Your expertise will also be required in configuring and managing network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together. Collaboration is key in this position, as you will work closely with network architects and other teams to plan and implement necessary network upgrades and expansions. You will also be tasked with managing network documentation, conducting regular audits, and ensuring compliance with security standards and best practices. Providing technical support and training to other network staff and end users will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that everyone is equipped to handle network-related tasks effectively. Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining data networks, including LANs, WANs, and other network infrastructure
  • Monitoring network performance and troubleshooting issues to ensure optimal network operation and minimal downtime
  • Configuring and managing network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Collaborating with network architects and other teams to plan and implement network upgrades and expansions
  • Managing network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and policies
  • Conducting regular network audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security standards and best practices
  • Providing technical support and training to other Network staff and end users as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 - 6 years of experience in network engineering and data operations
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proven experience with network protocols, technologies, and tools
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and network security
  • Experience with troubleshooting and configuration management of Juniper Routers and Firewalls in a service provider environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Experience with network standards and golden configurations
  • Experience with vendor management and vendor software upgrade procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certifications such as JNCIA, JNCIP, or equivalent are highly desirable
  • Telecommunications network experience
  • Familiarity with VoIP, SIP, WDM technologies
  • Experience with Fiber and Fixed Wireless broadband service vendors: Adtran, Tarana, and Nokia.
