About the position

The Network Data Center Engineer is responsible for supporting data center LANs and WAN connections, troubleshooting application performance, and ensuring the delivery of new functionalities. This role involves day-to-day operations, break/fix activities, and collaboration with other infrastructure groups to enhance network performance within the Enterprise HFHS Networks.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of the data network within defined scope
  • Provide technical assistance and resolution for network incidents and problems
  • Recommend and assist with the implementation of complex upgrades and improvements to the data network
  • Work with other infrastructure groups and end-users to identify and troubleshoot performance issues
  • Monitor the installation, maintenance, and monitoring systems of the Clients' network
  • Apply advanced skills to resolve complex problems independently
  • Bring successful resolution to high-impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems
  • Act as an Operations stakeholder for new infrastructure implementations
  • Develop mentoring materials and communicate methodology improvements to the technical team
  • Ensure all network infrastructure complies with current standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, or related work experience
  • Five years or more experience designing and implementing comprehensive network solutions using Avaya, Cisco, or Extreme Products
  • Training/familiarity with Nortel and Cisco architecture and design practices
  • Training and/or Industry recognized certifications with designing, maintaining and interconnecting wide area networks
  • Firm understanding of the OSI model
  • Three to seven (3-7) years of experience in a large, complex network environment using Avaya/Nortel and Cisco products
  • Demonstrated experience and strong fundamental knowledge working with IP packet capture tools
  • Five to 10 years of proven success in supporting a multi-location enterprise wide area network
  • Hands-on experience with the above listed solutions

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of network virtualization technologies including MPLS, VRF, VLAN, and VSS
  • Advanced knowledge of tunneling protocols including IPSEC, GRE, and L2TPv3
  • Data Center and high availability design experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Quality of Service
  • Experience with VOIP components and converged networks
  • Experience with network security standards
