About the position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Network Deployment Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team, focusing on the construction of Amazon Dedicated Cloud regions. As the demand for dedicated cloud regions continues to grow, we are looking for innovative builders who can tackle the challenges of scaling network systems to meet customer needs. In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability and sustainability of our next-generation networks while also contributing to the development of automated solutions that enhance our network capabilities. The Network Deployment Engineer will play a crucial role in scaling support across multiple data center locations and managing day-to-day capacity management tasks. You will collaborate closely with both internal customers and external vendors to ensure smooth project execution as directed by Technical Program Managers. The ideal candidate will be highly autonomous, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Significant experience in supporting large-scale, enterprise-class networks is essential, along with excellent network implementation and troubleshooting skills. A proven methodology for documentation is also required, as is the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. In addition to managing and supporting Amazon's extensive network infrastructure, Deployment Engineers are expected to build or enhance tools, develop best practices, refine operational procedures, and think proactively. This position requires that the selected candidate be a US Citizen and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. Furthermore, the candidate must opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate project status and blockers to leadership and project management.
  • Perform device build and cabling validation activities.
  • Manage cabling vendor activities and perform quality assurance activities.
  • Support Network Engineering deployment activities during scheduled change management windows.
  • Participate in the migration (possibly off business hours), basic configuration, and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  • Complete customer requests via Remedy trouble ticketing system.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing, and interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low-level application interaction.
  • Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow.

Requirements

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.
  • 3+ years experience as a technician or engineer installing and/or troubleshooting network cabling and hardware in a data center environment; or an equivalent combination of higher education and tech-related experience.
  • Experience with small to medium, complex project scopes and ambiguous details within work environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS in Information Systems or Computer Science and/or certifications to include CCNA or JNCIA and/or BICSI Level II or greater.
  • Understanding of infrastructure technologies, including Routers, Switches, Load Balancers, and Firewalls.
  • Knowledge of network cabling, optic types, and test equipment, such as VFL, power meter, and OTDR.
  • General comprehension of the various components and sub-components of data center infrastructure.
